There are really only two industries in the Maldives.... tuna fishing and tourism. The Maldives are a collection of some 1200 islands, most of which are not inhabited.

Rates at these 7 star resorts can run anywhere from $300 to $3000 per ..... night! Even in the low season! |

Other than working at a resort or some tourism related field, the only other industry is tuna fishing. As a result, tuna is part of every meal (or at least it would seem like that to me!)
All goods are imported, whether it be bottled water, food staples, office/school supplies, furniture, toothpaste, soap, clothing, kitchen items.... and so on and so forth. Everything is imported! |
